OBAMA DRIVES SPREAD BETTORS TO US EQUITIES AHEAD OF INAUGURATION
Irish spread betting firm sees increased trading movement on DJIA due to presidential changeover
The long-awaited inauguration of Barack Obama has stirred up interest in US equities as savvy spread bettors anticipate share movement during the presidential changeover.
“We are seeing significant movement by traders in DJIA and S&P 500 movement and in individual shares and sectors ahead of the Obama inauguration. The rumours circulating about Obamulus (the Obama sponsored economic stimulus in the offing) have buoyed up the markets.
There is also the fact that Democratic presidents have traditionally been good for both the American and the global economies. Some democrats however have been known for their tax and spend attitude which could be detrimental to Wall St. profits.
We don’t yet know which of these categories that Barack Obama fits into,” Davin McAnaney, Commercial Manager of paddypowertrader.
“Meanwhile, as the Republicans and George Bush leave the Oval office some industries could suffer, particularly construction and defence companies. Bushes aggressive stance abroad and the Iraq war have all provided lucrative opportunities for these types of companies. That could be about to change as a new Commander in Chief takes office,” McAnaney continued.
“With spread bettors taking the opportunity to bet both for and against US equity indices and other instruments, it remains to be seen how the advent of President Obama affects the US and Global markets. Increased transparency, better enforcement and regulation of the financial markets, which Democrats have supported, has helped bolster investor confidence in the past” he concluded.
