1. How to Spread Bet on Ahold shares?
Currently, the price of the Ahold Rolling Daily market is €9.52 - €9.55 with spread trading firms like Capital Spreads.
As with most large cap shares listed on the European exchanges, an investor can spread bet on the Ahold shares to rise or fall. With the Ahold Rolling Daily market, investors can bet on:
a) Ahold shares to increase higher than €9.55, or
b) Ahold shares to decrease lower than €9.52.
With the Ahold market you trade in £X per cent, where a cent is 1c of Ahold share price movement. For example, if you were to invest £10 per cent and the Ahold share price moves 5c then that would make a difference to your P&L of £50.
Ahold Shares Spread Betting Example
As a brief example, let’s say you see the live price on an online spread betting website that gives the spread of €9.52 - €9.55. So, following your analysis of the markets, you come to feel that the Ahold share price will move above €9.55. This would mean:
- You think that the Ahold shares should rise
- You decide you want to ‘buy’ the market at €9.55 and you risk £5 per cent
- The price of the shares rises and so the spread moves to €9.79 - €9.82
- With the new price you could choose to take your profit and close your position. To do this you would sell at €9.79
- Buy price = €9.55
- P&L = (Closing Level - Opening Level) x stake
- P&L = (€9.79 - €9.55) x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = €0.24 x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = 24c x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = £120 profit
Spread bets don’t always go to plan. If the trade did not move as planned, and had the Ahold shares decreased in value, with the spread going down to €9.34 - €9.37, then you might decide to settle your position and stop any more losses. You would do this by selling at €9.34.
- You bought the spread at €9.55
- P&L = (Closing Level - Opening Level) x stake
- P&L = (€9.34 - €9.55) x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = -€0.21 x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = -21c x £5 per cent stake
- P&L = -£105 loss
