1. How to Spread Bet on Citigroup shares?
Looking at the equities markets, at the moment, the price of the Citigroup Rolling Daily market is $3.34 - $3.37 with spread betting companies like Capitalspreads.
As with most large cap equities listed on the leading stock exchanges, you can spread bet on the Citigroup shares to go up or down in value. With this Citigroup Rolling Daily market, an investor can bet on:
a) Citigroup shares to increase above $3.37, or
b) Citigroup shares to decrease below $3.34.
It should be noted that with the Citigroup market you trade in £X per cent, where a cent is 1¢ of Citigroup share price movement. As a brief example, if you were to invest £14 per cent and the Citigroup share price moves 5¢ then that would be a difference to your bottom line of £70.
Citigroup Equities Trading Example
For example, let’s assume you see the real time price on a spread trading website that shows the spread of $3.34 - $3.37. After your research, you may think that the Citigroup share price will move higher than $3.37. Therefore:
- You believe that the Citigroup shares will increase
- You want to ‘buy’ the market at $3.37 and invest £7 per cent
- The market increases and the spread moves to $3.57 - $3.60
- With the new price you can choose to take your profit and settle your position. To do this you would sell at $3.57
- You bought the spread at $3.37
- Profit = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
- Profit = ($3.57 - $3.37) x £7 per cent stake
- Profit = $0.20 x £7 per cent stake
- Profit = 20¢ x £7 per cent stake
- Profit = £140 profit
Spread trading does not always go to plan. If the market failed to move as planned, and had the Citigroup shares decreased in value, with the spread decreasing to $3.18 - $3.21, then you might decide to close your position and prevent further losses. In order to do this you would sell at $3.18.
- Your initial buy price: $3.37
- Loss = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
- Loss = ($3.18 - $3.37) x £7 per cent stake
- Loss = -$0.19 x £7 per cent stake
- Loss = -19¢ x £7 per cent stake
- Loss = -£133 loss
