1. How to Spread Bet on Elsevier shares?
The current price of the Elsevier Rolling Daily market is €9.18 - €9.21 with spread betting firms like Tradefair.
Like the majority of European shares listed on the exchanges, an investor can place a spread bet on the Elsevier shares to go up or go down. With this Elsevier Rolling Daily market, investors can bet on:
a) Elsevier shares to increase above €9.21, or
b) Elsevier shares to decrease below €9.18.
Note that with the Elsevier market you trade in £X per cent, where a cent is 1c of Elsevier share price movement. Considering an example, if you invested £10 per cent and the Elsevier shares move 5c then you would see a change to your bottom line of £50.
Elsevier Equities Spread Betting Example
As a quick example, let’s assume you see the live price on an online spread trading website and it gives the current spread of €9.18 - €9.21. So, having done your market analysis, you come to think that the Elsevier share price will go above €9.21. This implies:
- You think that the Elsevier shares will increase
- You want to go long of the market at €9.21 and you risk £5 per cent
- The market rises and so the spread becomes €9.37 - €9.40
- As a result, you can choose to take your profit and close your position. In order to do this you would sell at €9.37
- Initial buy price: €9.21
- Profit = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
- Profit = (€9.37 - €9.21) x £5 per cent
- Profit = €0.16 x £5 per cent
- Profit = 16c x £5 per cent
- Profit = £80 profit
Spread betting does not always go to plan. Had the market failed to move as forecast, and had the Elsevier stock decreased in price, with the spread moving down to €9.03 - €9.06, then you may choose to close your bet and prevent further losses. You would do this by selling at €9.03.
- Price you bought the market at: €9.21
- Loss = (Closing Price - Opening Price) x stake
- Loss = (€9.03 - €9.21) x £5 per cent
- Loss = -€0.18 x £5 per cent
- Loss = -18c x £5 per cent
- Loss = -£90 loss
