What Currencies Can I Spread Bet In?
Note that with the above spread betting companies you can spread bet on any of the markets they offer, including French shares, in either Pounds, Euros or Dollars, e.g. £2 per point, $3 per point, €5 per point etc.

How Do I Spread Bet on French Shares?
Looking at the equities markets, the current price of the Total Rolling Daily market is €43.50 - €43.61 with spread betting firms such as Tradefair.
Like many shares listed on the European stock exchanges, investors can spread bet on the Total shares to go up or down. With the Total Rolling Daily market, an investor can bet on:
a) Total shares to increase higher than €43.61, or
b) Total shares to decrease lower than €43.50.
It should be noted that with the Total market you trade in £X per cent, where a cent is 1c of Total share movement. For example, if your stake was £4 per cent and the Total stock moves 5c then your profits (or losses) would change by £20.
Total Shares Trading Example
As a quick example, let’s say you see the live price on an online spread betting website and it gives the current spread of €43.50 - €43.61. Having done your analysis of the markets, you feel that the Total shares will increase and move above €43.61. This means:
- You think that the Total share price should rise
- You want to ‘buy’ the market at €43.61 and you invest £2 per cent
- The price of the shares rises with the spread moving to €44.26 - €44.37
- With the new spread you could choose to guarantee a profit and close your position. In order to do this you would sell at €44.26
- You initially bought the market at €43.61
- P&L = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
- P&L = (€44.26 - €43.61) x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = €0.65 x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = 65c x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = £130 profit
Nevertheless, had the market failed to move as predicted, and had the Total stock decreased in value, with the spread decreasing to €42.98 - €43.09, then you might choose to settle your bet and restrict your loss. To do this you would sell at €42.98.
- Buy price = €43.61
- P&L = (Final Level - Initial Level) x stake
- P&L = (€42.98 - €43.61) x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = -€0.63 x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = -63c x £2 per cent stake
- P&L = -£126 loss
Note that with a Rolling Daily Spread Bet if you Roll a bet over to the following day you could incur a charge or income for each day that the trade is held overnight. For more details please read: Rolling Daily Spread Betting Charges.
