How Do I Spread Bet on German Shares?
Currently, the price of the Siemens Rolling Daily market is €93.80 - €94.02 with spread trading companies such as paddypowertrader.
Like many equities listed on the European stock exchanges, an investor can bet on the Siemens shares either increasing or decreasing. With the Siemens Rolling Daily market, investors can place a spread bet on:
a) Siemens shares to go above €94.02, or
b) Siemens shares to go below €93.80.
With the Siemens market you trade in £X per cent, where a cent is 1c of Siemens share movement. Considering an example, if your stake was £2 per cent and the Siemens stock moved 5c then you would see a change to your profits (or losses) of £10.
Siemens Shares Spread Trading Example
As a quick example, let’s assume you see the live price on an online spread betting website and it gives the current spread of €93.80 - €94.02. Having done suitable analysis, you might feel that the Siemens shares is going to move above €94.02. This means:
- You believe the Siemens share price will increase
- You decide you are going to go long of the market at €94.02 and you bet £1 per cent
- The price of the shares increases and the spread becomes €95.29 - €95.51
- With this new price you can choose to take a profit and settle your position by selling at €95.29
- Buy price: €94.02
- Profit = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
- Profit = (€95.29 - €94.02) x £1 per cent
- Profit = €1.27 x £1 per cent
- Profit = 127c x £1 per cent
- Profit = £127 profit
Spread bets don’t always go to plan. If the market failed to move as planned, and had the Siemens stock decreased in value, with the market decreasing to €92.66 - €92.88, then you might choose to close your bet and prevent further losses. In order to do this you would sell at €92.66.
- Price you bought the spread bet at: €94.02
- Loss = (Settlement Price - Opening Price) x stake
- Loss = (€92.66 - €94.02) x £1 per cent
- Loss = -€1.36 x £1 per cent
- Loss = -136c x £1 per cent
- Loss = -£136 loss
