After reporting a first half drop in sales this morning property website company Rightmove is trading up 6% (26p) as investors focus on its forecast that it will beat 2009 expectations. Site visitors are once again growing as homebuyers gain more confidence about the end of the house price slump.
BBA Aviation has responded well to an upgrade from Citigroup and an increase in its target price. The share price has steadily risen since the beginning of the year and is enjoying more financial security after a strong year’s trading. Shares are up 6p (4%) this morning.

The Philly Fed data was far stronger than expected but the ensuing rally wasn’t a great surprise considering the strength of the European markets.
Today could be quiet different as a drop in Asia overnight could take its toll. The markets are now approaching significant resistance areas and could find it difficult to push higher without fresh good news. Traders will be looking for the FTSE to break through 4800 but the tone so far is that there could be small profit taking. There is a good possibility the FTSE could close around 4715, which would be no change from last weeks close.

A rise in oil prices yesterday helped to spur on US markets which in turn has pushed Europe higher this morning, with BP and Shell trading well. Figures from Rio Tinto this morning have also given the mining sector a boost. Investors will be looking to the US lead indicators and Philadelphia Fed published later on this afternoon to give direction to the fragile sentiment that seems to exist in the market currently.

Deflated start to the markets this morning as Europe follows Asian markets lower. Stock markets seem to be running out of steam as hopes of a quick recovery are dashed and are not helped by continuing thin trading volumes.

The FTSE is expected to open flat this morning despite a positive session in the US as the market waits to decide what to do next after the recent strong rally.
Attention this morning will move away from corporate earnings to economic data where the Bank of England will release the minutes from their previous monetary policy meeting and the weekly oil inventories this afternoon

European markets tracking Asia lower as investors focus on the poor US consumer confidence figures that came out on Friday rather than the encouraging data out from Japan overnight. Markets still feel that any potential upturn in the global economy will be short term and fragile rather than sustainable just yet.

The Dow futures are down 100 pts ahead of the UK open, largely down to big falls in Asia.
The FTSE might not open too low due to a late rally in the US on Friday night but these broad Asia drops will definitely have an impact.
If the session so far is anything to go by the rest of the day is going to be volatile. Buyers might get the opportunity they have been waiting for.
