1. How to Spread Bet on Pound / Swiss Franc?
The current price of the Pound/Swiss Franc Rolling Daily market is SFr 1.6853 - SFr 1.6861 with Tradefair.
Like many forex rates, investors can spread bet on the Pound/Swiss Franc pair to rise or fall. With this Pound/Swiss Franc Rolling Daily market, an investor can speculate on:
a) The Pound/Swiss Franc rate to go higher than SFr 1.6861, or
b) The Pound/Swiss Franc rate to go lower than SFr 1.6853.
It should be noted that with the Pound/Swiss Franc market you trade in £X per point, where a point is SFr 0.0001 of the Pound/Swiss Franc exchange rate movement. As an example, if you were to invest £6 per point and the Pound/Swiss Franc market moved by SFr 0.0005 then that would result in a difference to your bottom line of £30. SFr 0.0005 = 5 points. 5 points x £6 per point = £30.
Pound/Swiss Franc Foreign Exchange Spread Trading Example
For example, let’s assume you see the live price on an online spread trading website and it shows the current spread of SFr 1.6853 - SFr 1.6861. Having done suitable analysis of the markets, you could come to think that the Pound/Swiss Franc forex pair is going to go higher than SFr 1.6861. This would mean:
- You think that the Pound/Swiss Franc FX pair should go up
- Therefore, you decide you are going to go long of the market at SFr 1.6861 and you bet £3 per point
- The FX rate rises and the spread becomes SFr 1.6907 - SFr 1.6915
- With this new spread you can decide to guarantee a profit and settle your bet. In order to do this you would sell at SFr 1.6907
- Initial price you bought the spread bet at: SFr 1.6861
- P&L = (Settlement Level - Initial Level) x stake
- P&L = (SFr 1.6907 - SFr 1.6861) x £3 per point
- P&L = SFr 0.0046 x £3 per point
- P&L = 46 points x £3 per point
- P&L = £138 profit
However, if the trade did not work as forecast, and had the Pound/Swiss Franc exchange rate decreased in value, with the market decreasing to SFr 1.6819 - SFr 1.6827, then you can choose to close your position and prevent any further losses. You would do this by selling at SFr 1.6819.
- You initially bought the spread bet at SFr 1.6861
- P&L = (Settlement Level - Initial Level) x stake
- P&L = (SFr 1.6819 - SFr 1.6861) x £3 per point
- P&L = -SFr 0.0042 x £3 per point
- P&L = -42 points x £3 per point
- P&L = -£126 loss
